Boho-style pearls and gems

Boho-style pearls and gems

Fifty years since the summer of the hippies, jewellers are also experiencing a boho comeback by responding with a series of beads made with coloured gems or glass or other materials for collections with a hippy spirit.

These latest generation beads, combined with precious and semi-precious stones, give the jewellery items a casual and free allure.
"Throughout our career, we have been obsessed by the shape and essence of ancient beads,” says David Rees, one half of the Ten Thousand Things duo, whose latest collection focuses on beads made of aquamarine, citrine, lapis lazuli and other stones. “Classic, simple, strong and minimal items."

The inspiration behind the Ten Thousand Things collection dates back to the 1960s: the bead market has a primitive origin which has made this style into a real success. “Any reference, even a subconscious one, to ancient cultures is important since it connects us to history in a way that we need at this moment.”

Some examples? Di Silvia Furmanovich’s proposal with jarina seed beads and diamonds, or the one by Retrouvai with agate, tourmaline and dumortierite. And the necklace with ruby nuggets by Di Me&Ro or the ethnic-style work by Carolina Bucci with diamonds, sapphires and a variety of coloured stones and the finest necklace in 22 karat gold with emerald beads by Loren Nicole as well as the one in opal designed by Irene Neuwirth.
