Louis Vuitton and the second largest rough diamond in the world

Louis Vuitton and the second largest rough diamond in the world

Sewelô is the second largest diamond in history. It is now in the hands of Louis Vuitton: the Maison is working closely with the diamond cutting masters, HB Company, of Anvers to evaluate how to cut it.

It is called Sewelô (which means "rare supply"), it is 1,758 carats, and is about the size of a tennis ball. As another important detail, it is the second largest untreated diamond in the world, only eclipsed by the Cullinan, 3106 carat, discovered in South Africa in 1905.

It is a unique specimen from the Karowe mine of Lucara in Botswana: the diamond has remained intact thanks to the high-tech circuit XRTujygh, an advanced recovery process that avoids crushing the rock containing the stone, which represents a possible inconvenience during recovery processes.

The French fashion house Louis Vuitton has declared that it wants to offer its customers the opportunity to create customized and personalized diamonds, and is working with the diamond cutting masters, HB Company of Antwerp, with the support of scanning and imaging technology, to study this mega diamond in detail.

A new project that confirms LVMH's interest in high-end jewelry, after the purchase of Tiffany & Co. last November 2019.
