A jewel for each zodiac sign

A jewel for each zodiac sign

In the spring, the New York Times published an article that spoke of astrology as a great novelty in the financial sector: the world of astrology, in fact, is estimated at around 2.1 billion dollars: a sector that has its roots in the distant past of the ancient Chinese and Greek civilizations and which, in times of uncertainty, seems to give a meaning to everyday problems.

Even in the world of jewelry, the talismans of the zodiac have their success, so much so that they still represent the most personal way of connecting with cosmic powers. Even for the big names in fashion, from Coco Chanel to Christian Dior, known for being ardent amateur astronomers.

Fulco di Verdura also was fond of astrology and in 1944 he created the Constellation bracelet for Minnie Astor, embellished with diamonds in the shape of constellations of various zodiac signs. His first projects of 1930 for boxes of cigarettes hand-engraved with signs of the zodiac and dotted with constellations of diamonds were recently reconceived as pending, and released by the maison every month during the year.

The relationship between jewelry and astrology reached its peak in the 1960s and 1970s, another period in which political and social unrest led people to seek answers in the stars, with brands such as Boucheron, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels that they began to discover this world.

Today a new generation of designers is reviving the zodiac jewels as Ispahani Bartos states: "Wearing our zodiac sign is like telling both about the mysterious nature of our personalities and at the same time communicating that we share a celestial language and a commonality".

And there is a lot to do with design.
